PRESENTED BY INTERNATIONAL TEACHER AND AUTHOR LEILA STUART

THE SPINE IS THE CENTRAL CONNECTING STRUCTURE OF THE BODY, affecting health, balance, heart, and mind. The respiratory, circulatory, nervous, gastrointestinal, and endocrine systems orient around the vertical spine and are affected by its alignment and health. The different shapes and sizes of spinal curves, vertebrae, and discs provide stability and structural integrity yet allow considerable movement.  When we cultivate a felt sense of the central location, anatomy, and function of the spine, we can centre ourselves on physical, energetic, emotional, and mental levels. Movement is stronger, more integrated, energy-efficient, and graceful when we embody and move from the spine. Pain levels decrease when spinal mobility and stability are balanced.

IN THIS WORKSHOP

We will explore the spine through experiential anatomy, somatic inquiry, yoga therapy principles, movement repatterning, asana, breath, sound, and mental perspective.     We will use the koshic model to discover safe ways to improve spine health, alignment, stability, and mobility and to understand how spinal awareness can lead to deep personal transformation.

THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR

Experienced yoga students, yoga teachers, personal trainers, physiotherapists, and massage therapists interested in learning slow, mindful, and accessible movements for healing the spine and neck.

YOU WILL LEARN TO

  •  Embody experiential anatomy of the spine as the body's central core where movement can originate in a strong, integrated way.

  • Understand how the interplay between musculoskeletal, fascial, and nervous systems stabilizes the spine.

  • Repattern spinal curves and integrate the "neutral spine" concept in asana and daily movement.

  • Free movement possibilities of individual spinal vertebrae and zones of vertebrae to balance mobility with stability.

  • Apply and integrate experiential learning and yoga therapy principles into asana practice and strategies for working with common spinal pathologies.

  •  Practice safe spinal movement in activities of daily living.

  • Utilize inquiry to explore the consciousness shift that occurs when mindfully centring in the physical and energetic anatomy of the spine.

MEET LEILA
